Name: Jesse Custer Door: Left Canon: Preacher Canon Point: End of episode 1x10 Age: 34 Appearance: Here History: Here Personality: Powers and Abilities: DESIRE TO DO BETTER Jesse is a bad, bad man but he's genuinely trying to do good. He wants to do good, he wants to be a better man, a man who preaches the word of God to Annville, TX and makes them a better people. He wants to be the guy that talks about the Bible at a local diner and counsels those in need. It's not always easy for him to separate his former life from his current one but he is sincerely trying. He wants to leave his bloody past behind and he wants to spread God's words around, starting with Annville and then wider and to more people. ARROGANT The Word of God makes Jesse very, very powerful. He can pretty much do anything he wants, get anything he desires and fix the the city to make it better. And that inflates his ego to almost impossible sizes. He believes that the gift is a blessing from God, that he is Chosen and special because every previous host of Genesis exploded into a bloody pulp. When people try and tell him otherwise, he ignores them and even sends one teenager to Hell because he's annoyed by his constant questioning of Jesse's behavior. When two angels from Heaven arrive to try and take Genesis back, Jesse refuses because, again, he thinks this is meant for him and that he is going to change the world with it. BITTER Jesse Custer is a bitter man. His father, John Custer, was a preacher before him and oftentimes disciplined Jesse with a stern hand. He wasn't abusive but there were times that Jesse was humiliated in public. But, he loved his father until he didn't. Until his father took away Jesse's best friend, Tulip, and then he prayed for his father's death. Soon thereafter, his father was murdered and Jesse watched it happen. He carries an enormous amount of pain and bitterness from those moments, from knowing that he might have been the cause of his father's death, from knowing that his father might not have died had he been better, had he not taken Tulip. He wrestles with those issues still to this day and they shape the man he is trying to be. VIOLENT As I mentioned above, Jesse Custer used to be a bad, bad man and some of those behaviors remain today. He oftentimes defaults to violence to try and teach his parishioners a lesson. When a child tells him that he thinks his mother is being abused, Jesse breaks the man's arm and then orders him to stick a gun in his mouth, stopping short of making him kill himself. He scalds another's man face after he confesses that he's having impure thoughts about a child and then orders him with the Word of God, to forget her. He shoots a man's dick off before they're attacking his church and beats up several other men that were in on the assault. Jesse doesn't have any qualms about being angry and violent and vile to do what needs to be done. WORD OF GOD Jesse is the host of an angel/demon impossible spirit baby named Genesis that gives him the ability to command anyone (well, almost anyone) to do what he says. It is God's direct authority being passed from Jesse's lips to whomever he directs it at. It doesn't always work exactly right in that Jesse once asked Cassidy to fly and he jumped up and down instead because he can't fly. Obviously, this is a very powerful ability and I would only use it with prior communication with other players. But, if you think it should be nerfed, I'm cool with that too.
